Why are Government Jobs Better and Secure?

The most asked question by nearly every Indian student when they are planning to enter the career field is whether they should opt for a government job or a private job. For the last few years, the private sector has been fruitful, but for a few months, we can see the trend changing! Young, as well as aged Indians, are frequently opting for government jobs, all thanks to the commencement of the 6th pay commission. Let's find out why this transaction is happening and why Indians are thinking that government jobs are better and more secure

Job Security:

Job security is a major factor that you must consider while choosing which sector to prefer. The private sector is known to frequently fire employees when the company is facing a recession or when there is economic instability in the country. They simply do this to cut down their cost. However on the other hand government jobs are more secure and stable, you can expect to stay at a place for a long time. Here individuals are removed only due to their irresponsible behavior and below-average performance, other than that employees are very rarely fired from government jobs.

Retirement Policy:

Government jobs put great emphasis to ensure that the future of an employee is safe and secure; therefore they usually have retirement policies that are beneficial for employees. Also, every year the pension schemes are introduced by the government to ensure that the lifestyle and standard of living of an employee after retirement is unaffected. Additionally, if you worked for the banking or railway sector, you might get privileges like free travel, medical, and much more. Contrarily, private companies have no concern with the future of the employee; they have no retirement policy or pension plans. In such a case, an individual needs to plan out and secure his future on his own.

Relocation Policy:

The relocation policies of a government job are amazing. Government jobs allow relocating to new places without any hassle. So if you have shifted to a different area to live with your parents or need to relocate due to marriage then government jobs have some impressive relocation policies for you, unlike private jobs that do not offer any kind of relocation policy. Such flexibility attracts more people to the government sector.

Working Hours:

Another thing that individuals wonder about before selecting a job is the amount of valuable time they need to invest in a job. Government jobs have fixed working hours that is the same for any kind of government job you opt for. However, for private jobs the working hours depending upon the workload and number of employees; fewer employees and more burden mean more working time. Also, the private factor emphasis on short term goal therefor whenever the deadline is near; get ready to do overtime! Government jobs also require employees to do overtime, but they also offer attractive benefits for working overtime.

National and Public Holidays:

Want to celebrate festivals with your family or want a good quality of family time on a national holiday? Don't worry, government jobs announce holidays for all the national and public holidays. As for private companies, they offer a very limited number of holidays like 15 days in a year or so. The same goes for foreign-based MNC.

Number of Leaves:

The leave policy for government jobs is way better than private jobs. Not only the number of allowed leaves are greater in government jobs but the approval of leave is flexible and employee-friendly when compared with private jobs. In private companies, there are a very limited number of leaves that are only allowed when there is less workload. Also for exceeding the allowed leaves, private companies deduct a fine from the employee's salary.

Promotions:

Are you one of those individuals who are willing to work at one place with dedication for the long term? Then the government sector is the right place where you can search for a suitable job for you. As government job offer promotion to a person who provides excellent services to the company for a long time. In this sector, there are higher chances for growth and prosperity if you have the right skills to impress your company's seniors.

Benefits and Perks:

Government jobs offer numerous benefits and perks such as retirement policy, pension plans, and funds. The extra benefits that a few government jobs, usually the large corporations, offer are loans, childcare, medical, and much more. However, the mandatory ones are offered by all the government jobs. The retirement policy and pension plans are very important as they help to ensure that you live a good quality of life even after retiring from a job. Additionally, government jobs offer extra facilities like mobile phone subscriptions, internet, and LTC.

Work Stress:

The main aim of the government sector is toward the long-term therefore the stress level is less than the private sector. Yes, you can expect some level of stress and work pressure in government jobs when there is a festival upcoming or at the end of the economic year. On other hand, the private sector has short deadlines as their goal focuses on the short term. Hence their stress level and work pressure are very high as they need to complete their desired goals and submit projects before the deadline.

Respect:

Power and position come along with the job in the government sector. The subset of government employees will give you respect

Conclusion:

Indian Economy is expected to grow in the future, causing the vacancies in government jobs to increase in the upcoming time.

Private sectors have their own benefits and it completely depends upon how important what factor is for an individual and his preferences. With whatever sector you choose, you must know there is a lot to learn and experience. So get ready for a bumpy ride!
